This narrative study examines the life and career of Dr. Shirley Morejon, a first-generation Cuban-American who rose from humble beginnings to become among the leadership team of a major American bank. Through phenomenological interviewing and systematic coding analysis using Saldana's methods, four major themes emerged from her lived experiences: (1) Identity and Upbringing, exploring how her Cuban immigrant background and family values shaped her worldview; (2) Leadership Evolution, capturing her journey from entry-level banker to executive leadership; (3) Service and Mentorship, examining her commitment to lifting others while climbing; and (4) Purpose and Resilience, revealing how values and adaptability sustained her through challenges. The analysis, grounded in Social Identity Theory, Transformational Leadership Theory, Mentor Role Theory, and Resilience Theory, demonstrates how first-generation professionals navigate complex cultural contexts to achieve executive success while maintaining authentic identity and community commitment. This research contributes to understanding how cultural heritage, when embraced rather than minimized, can serve as a foundation for transformational leadership that creates both business value and social impact.
